Parents are strongly encouraged to reference the information provided in the Student Handbook for further detail.

Immunizations:

Texas Department of Health requires all school age children to be current on immunizations. Students are excluded from school until the required immunizations are obtained and a copy provided to the school nurse. You may reference the provided website for a complete list of required immunizations prior to starting school.

https://www.dshs.texas.gov/immunizations/school

All immunization records must be legible and/or transcribed in English before the student can be enrolled and signed by translating medical provider.

Clothing:

** ALL students, Pre- K through 5th should have a change of clothing provided from home in their backpack.

If a student soils his/her clothing during the school day to the extent that a change of an item or outfit is needed, parents are strongly encouraged to provide a change of clothes for their child which can be kept in the student’s backpack. Having his/her own clothes to change into is more comforting to the child. At times, the clinic may have suitable clothing to loan to the student; however, the clinic is not responsible for providing clothing. If clothing is not available, parents may be contacted to bring clothes to school immediately. The purpose of this recommendation is to reduce the missed instructional time when they are out of the classroom waiting in the clinic for clothes.

If your child is sick:

Children must be free of fever (less than 100.0 degrees) for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications (such as Tylenol or Advil / Motrin) before returning to school. Children must be free of diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school and need to be eating and drinking without any problem. If a child vomits two or more times within 24 hours, they will need to stay home for at least 24 hours to ensure they are not contagious.

Please call the school nurse if your child has been diagnosed with a contagious condition such as pink eye, strep throat, chicken pox, head lice, impetigo, ringworm, flu or has vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Medications:

Parents must deliver medications to the clinic and bring only the necessary amount for school in the original container. Children are not permitted to carry medication including cough drops. ALL MEDICATION must be administered from the clinic.

Over the counter medication for less than 6 weeks must be accompanied by a LCISD Parental Permit authorizing administration of the medication, reason and dose, time and amount.

All prescription medication must be in the original pharmacy container with the child’s name, medication date and dosing instructions. A second bottle from the pharmacy can be requested from the pharmacy by the parent for the school clinic.

Medications such as antibiotics for 3 times a day or every 8 hours are to be given at home. Just follow a before breakfast, after school and before bedtime schedule.

*There are no "stock medications" in the clinic such as Tylenol, Motrin, Tums, etc. Medications can only be sent for the student by the parent or guardian.

Food Allergies:

Terrell’s cafeteria is not nut free, but we do require nut free snacks for classroom consumption.

Food allergies can be life threatening. The risk of accidental exposure to foods can be reduced in the school setting if schools work with students, parents, and physicians to minimize risks and provide a safe educational environment for food-allergic students. Provide written medical documentation, instructions, and medications as directed by a physician, using the Food Allergy Action Plan as a guide. Include a photo of the child on the written form.

Miscellaneous:

All medical conditions must be entered in Skyward. Please contact the clinic nurse prior to the start of school to discuss any medical conditions that may require nursing interventions.

Emergency contact information MUST be provided in Skyward. Please develop a plan so that someone can be available to pick up your student within the hour for medical concerns if needed.

Each day, please provide a health snack (nut free) and a spill proof water bottle for your student. Many clinic visits regarding stomach and headaches are due to lack of nutrition/hydration.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email the clinic. I look forward to starting a safe and healthy school year!
